The US Flood Risk Map Infographic
SMPP Software ProviderNo matter where you live, your home is at risk to water damage caused by heavy rainfall and faulty plumbing. However, some areas of the country are more at risk than others. Tornado seasons, flash flooding and hurricanes mean that some states are hit harder than others, making it important that you know what to do in an emergency as well as how to prepare your home. To find out which states are hit hardest, and most often, we researched the costliest floods that hit the US since the year 2000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The FEMA classify an event that has 1,500 paid losses as a ‘significant flood event’, due to the fact that events can morph and spawn related occurrences (such as hurricanes causing tropical storms). 40 events were recorded, costing from tens of millions to billions of dollars in damage to homes across a range of states. Look below to find out how at risk your state is to flooding and, most importantly, know what to do if your home is under damage.
