A good credit score is essential to getting your home loan approved but how do you increase your score?
First of all, have you even seen your credit file? Call your credit reporting agency and ask them to get a copy of your credit file before you do any fixing!
Look at your credit file carefully because there may be errors on it! Details such as a court writ, judgment or a default may have been listed on it by mistake. In fact, a 2013 report by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) revealed that 30% of Australians had an error on their credit file. What’s even more surprising is that only 60% of these people got this cleared up!
Aside from defaults, judgments, part IX, bankruptcy and other types of black marks, you can often get a low credit score if you’ve made multiple applications for credit in a short period of time. These applications are recorded as credit enquiries, and having just two in the last six months could get you declined.
